The 2011 Atlanta Food Blogger Bake Sale! May 12, 2011

1 in 4 children in the United States struggle with hunger. That means 17 million kids go through uncertainty as to when or how they’ll eat. In a country of excess, those numbers are inexcusable. Those who have read this blog for any length of time know that charities that help stamp out hunger and improve food security and nutrition are dear to my heart…so when Gaby asked me to be part of the inaugural Food Bloggers Bake Sale, I immediately said yes.  Last year, our little bake sale that could raised $1600, all to benefit the hunger charity Share Our Strength. We had an amazing turn-out and it was a most memorable day.

I’ve happily reprised my role as coordinator of the Atlanta Food Blogger Bake Sale…and we’re movin’ on uptown! This years sale is being held in conjunction with the Luxury Living Show, taking place on May 14th at Phipps Plaza. The irony of hosting the Bake Sale – one that helps raise money for those lacking food – at the same time as a luxury lifestyle & home show is not lost on me. Our group of bloggers – including some of my most favorite people and beloved social media icons – are determined to use this opportunity to open some eyes about hunger….get the word out about Share Our Strength and the efforts of the charity…and bake our hearts out for this wonderful cause.

Cookies, layer cakes, pound cakes, cupcakes, gluten-free goodies, brownies – even gourmet doggie treats will be available at the sale starting at 10 AM. The Bake Sale will be located in front of the Williams-Sonoma store inside Phipps Plaza. We’ll be there selling our goodies until they run out – after last year, I encourage you to get an early start towards Buckhead. Please bring CASH or a CHECK to the Bake Sale – we are not accepting debit/credit cards but there are ATMs at the mall! Can’t join us that day or you’re out of town but want to support us anyway? Please donate online here at our team page. We want to at least MEET – if not EXCEED – the $1600 we raised last year for Share Our Strength.

I have to say – even before the sale – that the support of some of my fellow bloggers (foodie or otherwise) and wonderfully giving bakers & volunteers has been extraordinary…and I can’t wait to spend my Saturday with such an amazing group of people doing a pretty amazing thing. You can follow along with our Bake Sale tweets on Twitter via the hashtag #ATLBakeSale. See you there!

I wish I could be there in person but I am going out of town for a triathlon this week-end. I did donate though via the online system. Good luck!
